Big Boys Club Wired World of Sports : Summer Sports News

Summer Sports in the wide world has been interesting and full on. So much has been happening in cricket, tennis, formula one, professional wrestling and it’s starting to begin with the AFL.

Collingwood have come out today and announced a new captain in Scott Pendlebury but in all honesty, it’s Collinwood, so who really cares?

Australia is all about its Summer Sports.

The Australian Open is done and dusted. As much as we love Lleyton Hewitt, it was no real surprise he bowed out early however it was really surprising to see Pat Rafter come out of retirement! WTF was that about? Good on him but he should probably stick to doing those BONDS commercials. One good thing about the Australian Open this year though was seeing someone new win. Good work Stanislas Wawrinka and Li Na!

With only a couple international T20 matches left, it’s sad to see the end of the Australian cricket season. Unfortunately the Aussie weren’t able to go a combined 10-nill in the test and one day series but at least they still got a 4-1 result in the one dayers. Bring on the World Cup next year I say! How good is it going to be here in Australia?

Speaking of cricket, how good has the Big Bash been this year? Very exciting stuff! Although we’re Renegades supporters, who’ve had a very average season, it’s finals time and the other Melbourne team, The Stars have completely dominated the season going through undefeated! Very impressive! Only because they’re from Melbourne, we’ll be supporting The Stars in the finals!

Daniel Ricciardo is stepping up to this F1 season by filling the boots of fellow country man, Mark Webber, in joining the Red Bull Racing Team. Ricciardo has come out and said he’s looking forward to driving with such an established driver like Sebastian Vettel. No real surprises though that Vettel has come out and said that Ricciardo is “On his own” and he won’t be giving him any advice. Sebastian Vettel is officially a piece of shit!

Finally I thought I would write a little something about the WWE Royal Rumble, which took place a couple days ago and is the second biggest wrestling PPV of the year behind Wrestlemania (Which I’ll be writing a detailed article about closer to the event), which is going to be huge this year as it’s the 30th anniversary. The Royal Rumble leads into Wrestlemania with the winner of the “Rumble” match taking on the champion and Wrestlemania in the main event. I’m well aware it’s all scripted and planned but damn it’s entertaining. This year’s winner was former MMA fighter, part time actor, part time wrestler, Dave Batista! The man could honestly snap you in half!
