A month of sporting action!

So much sporting action went on this week. We didn’t know what to watch half the month. Luckily we invested in a second TV, that made life on the couch watching sport a hell of a lot more fun.

So what exactly went down over this past month? Well the British Lions came over and played some awesome rugby against the Wallabies. The Miami Heat won the NBA championship. Hawthorn and Geelong are still dominating the AFL. The Rabbitohs are creating some history in the NRL. The State of origin has had everything, even a streaker! History was made in Wimbledon. Then there are the Ashes. Finally the Socceroos made it through to the World Cup. So let’s get into some serious detail.

So lets start with the Lions tour. With a 12 year build up the whole country was pretty much geared up for one hell of a test series. The first test at Suncorp in Brisbane went down to the wire and if the Wallabies had of kicked straighter they probably could have came away with the win. The second test at Eithad in Melbourne was another nail bitter and this time around the Wallabies were lucky enough to come away with a great victory. The decider was at ANZ stadium in Sydney and the Lions were just to bloody good and pretty much steam rolled the Wallabies in the second half and came away with a massive series victory.

Over to the US now and the NBA wrapped in during June and the favourites to take the title the Miami Heat took on the San Antonio Spurs. It was a best of 7 series and the 2 sides got road wins early in the series. The Spurs looked to win the Championship in game 6 on Miami’s home court, but Ray Allen of the Heat hit a miraculous buzzer beater to win the game and send the series down to a deciding game 7. Game 7 was a close one but in the end the Heat was just to good, and Lebron and his Heat teammates won the championship and went back to back.

Over to the UK now and Scotsman Andy Murray has been the first British Male tennis player to win Wimbledon in well over 50 years. Andy fought really hard and he was just to bloody good for Novak Djokovic.

Here is a great reason to celebrate being a Aussie! The Socceroos, came away with a solid victory against Iraq in the World Cup Qualifiers to secure their place in the World Cup in Brazil next year. So if you’re like us, you’re already saving your pennies to head over to Brazil next year.

Next up we head back to the land of the Pom. Yep that’s right it’s time for an ashes update. The first test was a great match, it really was anyone’s game, but the Poms just won by only 15 runs! 19-year-old Aussie Ashton Agar had an awesome innings scoring 98 runs, practically saving Australia from a real embarrassing loss. Unfortunately the second test was a hell of a lot worse, infact it was pretty embarssing to watch. All you need to know is that the Poms won again. Now if only our batsmen can make some runs in the third test, we might have a chance at winning the third test.

This monthly sports report wouldn’t be complete without an AFL and NRL update. In the AFL, you can’t help but focus on the drug scandal. Sure I could go on about it but I think the mainstream media has got that covered. Personally I think it’s a bit overkill, why not focus on the footy and when the actual findings of the inquiry come out then go to town. Seriously, enough with the speculation. In other AFL, the Hawks and the Cats continue to dominate up there on the top of the ladder and we are happy to announce that the Melbourne Demons finally came away with a win.

In the NRL, Russell Crowe’s South Sydney Rabbitohs are sitting pretty on the top of the ladder. This hasn’t happened in almost 60, let’s hope they can hold their form into the finals. Also in the NRL, the State of Origin has just wrapped up and well I hate to say it but the Queensland Maroons came away with their 8th straight series victory. NSW came so close to winning the series, NSW had a great win in game 1. In the 2nd game the Queenslanders were just too strong. The final game was only a couple of days ago and it was a nail bitter and NSW was so close to winning but in the end the Queenslanders held on to yet another historic victory. The game had it all, even the biggest, fattest, fastest streaker you’ll ever see.

See ya all next month for yet another sports update, but if you want a more regular update head to the Blokes Corner at the Big Boys Club Website for a weekly sports update.
