Big Boys Club Wired World Of Sport – World Cup Fever!

World Cup Fever

It’s that time of year where everyone is half asleep at work, after staying up all night with world cup fever, watching all the incredible World Cup action. It only comes every four years but when it does come, man what a rush! Honestly, we’ve been sitting around the Big Boys office the last few days in zombie mode, as we’ve been up all night watching the action.

I’ve got World Cup Fever!

I want to focus on our own Socceroos though. What an effort! Sadly they’ve been knocked out of the tournament but what a huge effort they put in against the rampaging Neverlands! Big Boy favorite Tim Cahill scored one awesome goal, which has been labeled as the best of the tournament so far and one of the greatest of all time!
Be sure to look out for us at Federation Square next week when the Aussies take on the reigning World Champions, Spain. Sure it’s a dead rubber but how cool would it be to beat them? C’mon Aussies!!!

After eight long years, New South Wales has FINALLY won the State Of Origin! With a couple of high profile Melbourne Storm players representing the maroons, it’s hard to deny the fact we have a soft spot here at the Big Boys Club for the Queensland side. Speaking of Melbourne Storm players though, the NRL have announced they’re bringing the State Of Origin to our very own MCG next year. The question is, can they draw a crowd big enough to fill it? Will it be up against ANZAC Day is the way of attendance records? As much as the NRL seem to hate the Melbourne Storm, they are still trying to engulf us in their sport, which is fair enough seeing as Melbourne is the true sporting capital of the World! Having said that, we must congratulate The Blues on their historic 6-4 victory!

Some nice, touching news out of the AFL this week is the opening of the Jim Stynes Bridge in the Docklands. Another great example of the influence AFL Legend, Jim Stynes had on the AFL and our great city!
Sadly, the on going, “Essendon doping saga”, has overshadowed this exciting news. The latest word is the Essendon case against ASADA, in the Federal Court, will be televised live on the ABC. As interesting as this could be, as AFL fans, we want to see this “hour long episode” come to a conclusion. As much as we would hate to see the players punished for their role in this, when it all comes down to it, I don’t think anyone can really plead ignorance.

Last Saturday night, the Wallabies were in town showcasing their skills against a hapless French outfit. Securing the series 2-0 thus far, in front of 37,000 fans at Etihad Stadium, the Wallabies will now be heading north to face the French, in the final and dead rubber match in Sydney.
With no other games in Melbourne until next year, we want to know, should there be more Wallabies games here in Melbourne, the true sporting capital of the world?
The final game against France in Sydney on Saturday night, will hopefully be a bit more of a contest, as we’ll be glued to the TV in anticipation.

With so much sport in and around Melbourne, we’re positive most of our readers are involved with a sporting club at some level.
